(WAM) - The Embassy of Chile in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today launched a charity campaign to bring help and support to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that affected the country last Friday.
The main objective is to collect funds that will be sent through the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, to help the homeless people that have lost everything and are still in need of supplies and food.
"More than 800 people have died due to this natural disaster, two million are living nowadays in critical conditions, 500,000 houses have been completely destroyed, the electricity, energy and water is still missing, and the connectivity in many of the roads has been damaged. We urgently need to bring help and support to our devastated country. As an Embassy we received many enquiries of a lot of people from many nationalities asking how they could help. We believe solidarity has no frontiers, and this campaign is being orientated to all the United Arab Emirates who are willing to help," says Marco Martínez, the Consul of the Embassy of Chile located in Abu Dhabi.
All the funds collected through the UAE, will be deposited in an account opened by the Government of Chile in that country, especially to receive the donations of all the Chilean diplomatic missions overseas. The donations will provide the necessary supplies and implements for the affected zone, primarily Concepción and the coast located to the south of Chile. (WAM)
